dCut is a Windows XP Media Center Edition plug-in that enables you to edit and compress your recorded television so you can make it ready to burn on a DVD or just to save disk space.
dCut is unique in a few ways. First, dCut combines the tasks of cutting out only the segments you want from dvr-ms files, and compressing dvr-ms files into a smaller format (Windows Media 9.) Second, dCut allows you to do all of this from your couch, utilizing the a 10' UI which integrated directly into your Media Center. dCut works via a hosted HTML App, and is controled with your Media Center remote control.
dCut uses a queue-based scheme to do it's work. When you queue up a file by selecting Compress in the UI, your "job" is sent via .NET remoting to a worker service which maintains the queue. The file will be added to the end of the queue. Jobs are processed in the order in which they are enqueued. The queue is persistient, so if you restart your machine, the service will pick up where it left off when restarted. Visit the developers website for more information and to download this plugin.
