System Monitor for Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition is a plug-in that will display data collected by SpeedFan on your Media Center. Do you want to monitor temperatures, fanspeeds and voltages on your system, but we're never able to because the information for SpeedFan was to small to read on your Television? Well, than this is the plug-in for you.You can configure up to 6 temperatures, fans and voltages to display.
System Monitor uses standard functionality from SpeedFan so no changes to SpeedFan are needed, the only thing that has to be done is to configure SpeedFan properly: set the names of the items you want to display and enable logging for them. Inside the plug-in you can set several option, such as to start SpeedFan minimized, Close SpeedFan when you close the plug-in and turn automatic fan speed on and off. You can also select if you want the temperatures to show in Celcius or in Fahrenheit.

How to configure SpeedFan so System Monitor can use its information:For System Monitor to be able to display the information collected by SpeedFan some configuration has to be done in Speedfan. (click the images to enlarge) First logging must be enabled, make sure a header is added and the decimal separator is a comma (,):
When logging is enabled we have to let System Monitor know what type of item the values in the logfile are. This is done by adding a space and a character to the items name. For a temperature reading a space followed by a t is added, for a fanspeed a space followed by an s is added and for a voltage a space followed by a v is added. Also make sure that the checkbox ‘logged’ is ticked for the desired items. (This checkbox is in the lower left corner when the item is selected) These are all the settings needed to make System Monitor display the data, but some additional configurations settings can be usefull, but these can also be configured inside System Monitor: Enable ‘start SpeedFan minimized’ – On some systems the SpeedFan window is briefly shown at the plug-in startup when this setting is disabled
Celcius or Fahrenheit – Well, no explanation needed here
